Griffin issues "Cease and Desist" Order To Fulop
Ward F Activist and presumably Ward F City Council Candidate Michael Griffin is not too happy with Mayor Steven Fulop.
Griffin took to Facebook and issued a body shot to Fulop's article on Nj.com concerning the proposed "cease and desist" legislation which prohibits the door to door canvassing efforts of buying homes by investors.
Griffin who along with other activists spent months trying to have an ordinance passed which would curb these practices.
Today the Mayor touted the pending legislation as an accomplishment of his administration.
Griffin was not willing to allow the Mayor to accept any credit in the creation of the Ordinance. Griffin noted that he and fellow community leaders collaborated with Council members Rolando Lavarro & Joyce Watterman for months to address the issue. Noting the Mayor had no involvement in the process.
Most may recall Griffin garnered 3 votes during the appointment process for Ward F Council seat. Jermaine Robinson was appointed to the seat by Fulop allies on the Council.
There is no doubt Griffin will make this a platform issue in his bid for the Ward F seat during the Municipal elections in November.

Fulop's Press Release comments:
Some of the new initiatives Fulop said he will discuss include increased affordable housing, afterschool city recreation programs at three public schools on the south end and an ordinance that would restrict door-to-door solicitation, intended to discourage aggressive real-estate investors.
Griffin's Response:
I've been working and meeting with local community leaders, representatives from the Hasidic Jewish community as well as Council President Rolando Lavarro and Councilwoman Joyce Watterman to formulate an ordinance that will control the aggressive solicitation of homeowners in Jersey City, especially Ward F.
Developers, entities and individuals have been preying on property and homeowners who may or might not have a clue of what to do when faced with challenges that comes with ownership. We all have been sitting at a round table in City Hall to come up with solutions. We've amended an ordinance that will now make it illegal to harass property and homeowners in my community; our community!
All of this came out of a "Cease and Desist" petition I co-authored with Councilman Chris Gadsden of Ward B. The work that was done leading up to this point wasn't easy. I was called an Anti-Semitic. I was told it was a waste of time. I didn't give up on my community like some in our local government have, but I digress.
Do Not Tread on Me!! Do not undermine my love and commitment for my community! Do not take what we have accomplished as a community and try to use it for self promotion. Mayor Fulop, you did not work on this. You cannot and should say you did. That would be an insult to me and the other community leaders who worked on this as well as an insult to your Council President and At-Large Councilwoman. I implore you not to play with the intelligence of my community.
Respectfully,
Michael Griffin
