Not too many people can handle the rigors of coaching at their alma mater, especially when you were a Former star player at the school. However, Tommy Best, the Lincoln High School girls basketball coach has done just that and much more.Yesterday afternoon the Lincoln High School Lady Lions captured the 2018 Girls Hudson County Basketball Championship and has quietly become the Hudson County Premier Girls Basketball Program.Under Best's leadership, he has guided the program to 7 championship game appearances in 9 years, winning 4 of the 7.In a time where the public school system has been maligned by critics, the Lady Lions have players achieving on and off the court.Coach Best with his "Popovich" approach to coaching, must be given his due honors, as one of the Elite coaches in Girls High School basketball in New Jersey.After beating the outstanding Secaucus girls basketball team yesterday for its first title since 2014, the 16th ranked Lions will look to add a state championship to its resume.Enjoy the moments Lincoln! Let’s not forget Tommy Best, is also a proud alum of St. Peter’s University, and he just may be the Coach needed to resuscitate the Lady Peahens, once a storied program.Stay Tuned, Lady Lions are expected to make a deep run in this year's state tournament.
